Analysis of the high-pressure performance of Type C air conditioning hoses: industry standards and practical applications

Posted by Admin

In automotive and industrial refrigeration systems, Type C air conditioning hoses are favored for their excellent high-pressure performance and reliability. As a key component of the air conditioning system, its pressure resistance is directly related to the safety and efficiency of the system.
High-pressure resistance standards for Type C air conditioning hoses
Type C air conditioning hoses are hoses designed for high-pressure refrigerants (such as R134a, R1234yf, etc.). Their structure usually consists of an inner rubber layer, a reinforcement layer (mostly synthetic fiber or steel wire braided) and an outer rubber layer. According to SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) standard J2064, the burst pressure of Type C hoses is usually required to reach at least 3,000 PSI (about 207 bar), while the working pressure is generally between 350 and 580 PSI (24 to 40 bar), depending on the inner diameter of the hose and the reinforcement layer material.
In actual tests, high-quality Type C hoses can even withstand instantaneous pressures of more than 4,000 PSI, ensuring that they can maintain structural integrity under extreme working conditions (such as system blockage or high temperature environment) to avoid the risk of bursting.
Why is high pressure resistance so important?
Safety guarantee: The air-conditioning system may generate high pressure due to refrigerant compression or temperature fluctuations during operation. If the hose is not able to withstand enough pressure, it will cause leakage or rupture, which will not only affect the cooling effect, but also may cause safety hazards.
System efficiency: Hoses with strong high-pressure tolerance can reduce deformation caused by pressure fluctuations, ensure stable refrigerant flow, and improve energy efficiency.
Durability: High-pressure hoses usually adopt a multi-layer reinforced design, which has better fatigue resistance and longer service life.
Industry application and selection suggestions
Type C hoses are widely used in new energy vehicles, commercial vehicles and industrial refrigeration equipment. Users should pay attention to the following when selecting:
Certification standards: Products that comply with SAE J2064 or ISO related certifications are preferred.
Material process: Steel wire reinforced hoses have higher pressure resistance than pure fiber layer hoses and are suitable for high-pressure systems.
Temperature adaptability: The pressure resistance performance needs to match the operating temperature range (usually -40°C to +150°C) to avoid pressure attenuation under high temperature.
The high pressure resistance performance of Type C air conditioning hose is a reflection of its core competitiveness. High-quality products can far exceed industry standards in rigorous testing. For engineers and purchasers, understanding the significance of this indicator and choosing compliant products are the key to ensuring the long-term stable operation of the system. In the future, as refrigerants develop towards higher pressures (such as R744 systems), the technical iteration of Type C hoses will continue to promote industry progress.
